Safe Blood

Our source of blood is primarily voluntary or replacement from healthy donors. We do not accept blood from any other sources.

Each unit of blood we collect is screened and tested for HIV1, HIV2 and HCV antibodies, Hepatitis B, surface antigens, VDRL, malarial parasites and other irregular antibodies. We can thus say with utmost confidence that the blood we supply both in-patients and out-patients is safe, screened and certified.

Our motto is to provide high quality ‘Safe Blood’ to patients round the clock. We are constantly on a quest to improve and to provide the best in transfusion services to everyone.

Requests For Blood

We supply whole blood to our patients, other hospitals and nursing homes.

In-patients

  • When an-patient requires blood, a request is sent to the Blood Bank after informed consent for transfusion is taken from the patient/patient’s relative.
  • The patient is given the required blood after necessary testing from the Blood Bank.
  • Later the Patient’s relatives may be required to bring in donors to donate blood as replacement for the units issued.
  • If you are a voluntary donor, all you need to do is to contact the Blood Bank to do the needful.

Blood Components

The first Blood Components was started in Chikkamagaluru at Holy Cross Hospital in 2019 . Items which processed are :

  • Whole Human Blood
  • Concentrated Human Red Blood Cells
  • Fresh Frozen Plasma
  • Platelet concentrate

Components of Blood include Plasma, Platelets Red and white blood cells that circulate through body. Blood supplies essential substances such as sugars and oxygen to cells and organs and remove waste from cells.

Blood has various functions that are central to survival. They include:

  • supplying oxygen to cells and tissues
  • providing essential nutrients to cells, such as amino acids, fatty acids, and glucose
  • removing waste materials, such as carbon dioxide, urea, and lactic acid
  • protecting the body from diseases, infections, and foreign bodies through the action of white blood cells
  • regulating body temperature

The platelets in blood enable the clotting, or coagulation, of blood. When bleeding occurs, the platelets group together to create a clot. The clot forms a scab, which stops the bleeding and helps protect the wound from infection.

Hospital supply the above products to Hospitals around Chikkamagluru and Kaduru. Thanks to the Blood Bank for saving Thousands patients including Dengue  with Blood components and Platelet transfusion.
